Tamang Heritage Trail leads to exploring the scenic wilderness of Langtang and Ganesh Himal within traditional mountain Tamang villages.

Tamang is the ancient, indigenous mountain tribe of Nepal Himalayas, its history dates back more than thousands of years. Migrated from Inner Mongolia through the vast land of Tibet and settled on the high hills and valleys of Nepal.

Tamang Heritage Trail Trekking provides visitors the inner depth of the Tamang immense culture of age-old heritage. The walk follows from one lovely village to another interesting place within the backdrop of a high snow mountain range.

On this wonderful Tamang Heritage Trail Trekking, staying in the comfort of a nice cottage, known as Home Stay. Which is managed by the village communities, and get immersed into local culture and custom. As well as having the taste and enjoying the local native meals of great variation along with the entertainment of folk programs. Includes dancing and singing merriment making your stay memorable, and worth an experience getting into the local way of life.

Tamang Heritage Trail starts from Kathmandu on an overland journey reaching the heart of Tamang country in the Rasuwa district. The drive finally ends heading downhill at Syabrubesi village, the gateway to various destinations around Langtang and Ganesh Himal region.

From Syabrubesi walk starts avoiding the main road on the old walking path with a climb reaching a small forested area. The walk continues through scattered farm areas reaching a large and interesting Gatlang village. One of the largest Tamang villages festooned with impressive Buddhism culture, enjoying a wonderful time at Gatlang village, in the warm hospitality of villagers.

At Gatlang with extra days to explore around the traditional village of Tamang interacting and soaking in the local custom. After an exciting moment journey continues heading towards the next impressive villages of Thuman and Briddim.

Where trail follows through Tatopani a place with a hot spring as the trail leads close to Nepal and Tibet border near Timbure village. An enjoyable pleasant walk within a cool shade of rhododendron and pine forest then reaching the high hills of Nagethali. Which is 3, 165 m high and offers a superb panorama of Langtang and Ganesh Himal as far as Manaslu Himal.

Slowly walk comes to an end, after an interesting visit to various impressive Tamang farm villages, reaching Syabrubesi. At Syabrubesi for the last overnight halt around the marvelous country of indigenous and cheerful and happy Tamang people. The next morning an overland journey reaches you back at Kathmandu, after a wonderful time and experience on Tamang Heritage Trail Trekking.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Day 02: At Kathmandu for trek preparation and sightseeing tour.

Day 03: Drive to Syabrubesi 1,470 m via Dhunche town 1,950 - 06 hrs.

Day 04: Trek to Gatlang village 2,235 m - 05 hrs.

Day 05: A free day at Gatlang for exploration.

Day 06: Trek to Tatopani village 2, 607 m - 04 hrs.

Day 07: Trek to Thuman 2,338 m via Nagethali 3,165 m, Bumthang- 06 hrs.

    Best Seasons:

    Tamang Heritage Trail Trekking, for all seasons of the year-round, except the monsoon wet times. The best seasons are in spring and autumn/fall, where days are crystal clear for views and pleasant walks.

    The springtime’s begins from March till May, the high seasons for trekking around Nepal Himalayas and to Langtang Valley.

    Most days are clear fine and bright with sunshine, which can get overcast in the late afternoon. Chances of snowfall sometimes on higher terrain, cold in the morning late afternoon, and nighttime. The mid-hills are lively with wildflowers in seasonal bloom, especially the rhododendron of various species from trees to short bush.

    The next best time is in autumn/fall, one of the peak seasons. For trekking around the Himalayas and Tamang Heritage Trail, most days are

    crystal clear for views and scenic walks. However, the days are shorter due to fewer sun-light hours, much colder morning and late afternoon till night time.

    Chances of snowfall sometimes during the walk around higher areas above 2,000 m high, but with a clear starry night sky.

    Religion, Culture on Langtang Himal and Tamang Heritage Trail:

    Tamang are the main inhabitants of the Central and Langtang Himalaya range as far as to Ganesh and Jugal Himal areas. Around Langtang Valley trek. Populated by the indigenous Tamang tribes, follows Tibetan Buddhism known as Mahayana or Greater Wheel. Established by great Guru Rinpoche Padamasamba in the 7th Century, reforming Buddhism which was near to extinct.

    The culture, tradition, and heritage are similar to its Tibetan predecessors, the Tamang are farmers and raise livestock. As well famous craftsman and artist painting Thangka the religious arts of Buddhism religions.

     

    Interesting Tamang villages on this trek are Dhunche town, Syabrubesi, Gatlang, Thuman and Briddim with other places are farm and cattle herder temporary settlements.


Detail Itinerary

Day 1:

Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On arrival in Kathmandu at Nepal international airport, received by our staff and guide for short drive to your hotel. Located amidst the main city, check into your rooms and join in for trek briefing with other members of the trip. Our guide provides information about the trekking trails, local lodge, and culture and so on. Evening group dinner an introduction to Nepalese meals and traditions.
Day 2:

At Kathmandu for trek preparation and sightseeing tour.

Enjoy the free day for trek preparation and join for an interesting sightseeing tour around historical, cultural and religious places. Kathmandu is steeped with World Heritage Sites, our city / cultural guide will takes you around the great places of historical wonders of great interest. Afternoon free for individual activities and trek preparation.
Day 3:

Drive to Syabrubesi 1,470 m via Dhunche town 1,950 - 06 hrs.

Early breakfast and depart for Langtang Valley Trekking, a drive of 5-6 hours exciting overland journey through Nepal countryside. Riding on main busy interesting highway then reaching at Dhunche, the headquarter town of Rasuwa district and Langtang Himal region. From Dhunche another hours of drive downhill on winding road reaching Syabrubesi village for overnight in the comfort of a nice simple lodge.
Day 4:

Trek to Gatlang 2,200 m - 05 hrs.

First day walk starts from Syabrubesi after a pleasant overnight and having good breakfast. As trail follows west walk on old country path to Gatlang avoiding the main motorable road. As trek leads through smaller farm villages to enter into a cool shade of small forest area. Walk then head uphill on gradual slope, then reaching Gatlang for overnight stop. On arrival greeted with warm traditional welcome with garland of silk scarf called Khada, a small taste of local brew. The villagers and guide leads to your overnight accommodation in a nice local huts or a cottage. Which is known as Home-Stay program having local traditional meals, with merriment of folk song and dance. A lively environment while you stay on Tamang villages.
Day 5:

A free day at Gatlang for exploration.

A free day at Gatlang village, to explore around its villages where house are adorned with Buddhist colorful prayer flags. The village path lined with religious monument called Chaitiya or Stupas, visit the village monastery of great cultural interest. With time interact with the local people and soak into their everyday social and farm activities
Day 6:

Trek to Tatopani 2,607 m - 05 hrs.

Morning facing grand views of surrounding near peaks as far towards north of Tibet Mountains. Walk starts with slow climb past smaller farm villages entering woodland to Tatopani village for overnight halt. The place with natural hot springs called 'Tatopani’ in Nepali, the warm pools is within the village. Afternoon enjoy the refreshing bathe and dip in a hot pools, full of sulfur or Sulphur. The local believes it heals all types of disease and relives aches and pains of the body muscles.
Day 7:

Trek to Thuman 2,338 m via Nagethali 3,165 m, Bumthang- 06 hrs

From Tatopani village after a refreshing and enjoyable time, morning walk heads close to the border of Nepal and Tibet. Where our route diverts to high hills with steep climb for few hour to Nagethali. On the highest point of the trek, facing excellent views of surrounding close peaks of Langtang, Ganesh Himal with Manaslu. After an enjoyable stop downhill to Thuman, walks follows a gradual path with short up and down into forested path. Then ending the day walks on reaching Thuman village for overnight halt, with time in the afternoon to make friends and chat with the local natives. Thuman, a nice cultural village renowned for its Shamanic performances and striking view of Langtang Himal range.
Day 8:

Trek to Briddim 2, 230 m - 06 hrs

A moderate long day walk of more than 5-6 hours, but worth the beautiful scenery. From Thuman morning walk leads to Lingling a small farm areas. As trek follows on winding trail into lovely forest of tall rhododendron, oaks and pine tree lines with occasional view of snow peaks. As walk progress along with exciting views and then reaching Briddim village for overnight halt. Here in the comfort of nice traditional hut, which serves as a Home-Stay activity for visitors. At Briddim enjoy observing the local culture of Tamang, and experience the village farm life. Furthermore a folk dance and song is performed by the local villagers in the evening as entertainment. As well where guest can have a memorable experience of the village age-old lively culture. The heritage and culture of Briddim resemble similar to its Tibetan predecessors which is just across the border of Kyirong and Rasuwagadh
Day 9:

Trek to Syabrubesi and transfer to a lodge-05 hrs.

Last day walk of the wonderful journey, from Briddim with options of routes the upper trail leads to Langtang valley. Taking the easy nice downhill path to Syabrubesi village for final overnight around the country of Tamang and around beautiful Langtang Himal region of Rasuwa district.
Day 10:

Drive to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Morning after a pleasant time at Syabrubesi village and around the high hills of Langtang Himal, depart for Kathmandu. On the same interesting highway past farm villages and town then reaching Kathmandu, by late afternoon. Rest of the day free at leisure for individual activities and shopping souvenirs
Day 11:

At Kathmandu free day at leisure.

In Kathmandu we have spared a day free to enjoy individual activities, as well for shopping souvenirs of Nepal. Interested people can join in for another exciting sightseeing tour of Patan and Bhaktapur worth a visit.
Day 12:

Depart for international departure.

Transfer to Nepal international airport in Kathmandu, as per your international flight time, our guide and staff transfer you to the airport. The bidding farewell to staff and guide, enter the airport terminal for homeward bound, after a wonderful cultural journey on Tamang Heritage Trail Trekking
